PROGRAM VISION

COBA offers an inspiring three-year Professional Training Apprenticeship Program for emerging artists looking for in-depth training in dance and or

music.A one-year intensive program for dancers and teachers is now also available.
The program vision is to nurture artists in perfecting a diverse movement vocabulary with specialized ability in both the traditional and contemporary aesthetics of Africa and the African Diaspora.
Students benefit richly from the mentorship and training delivered by the roster of esteemed resident artists, griots and master teachers involved in creative collaboration with the Collective.


PROGRAM CURRICULUM

COBA’s Professional Training Apprenticeship Program provides high quality dance education that is supported by a legacy of African history.
An intensive program with afternoon & evening classes, COBA’s training curriculum encompasses instruction in:
- Traditional West African dance
- Caribbean Indigenous Folk dance
- Afri-Jazz
- Ballet (non-syllabus)
- Modern
- Repertoire
- Vocal chanting
- Drumming/percussion
- Makeup application
- Anatomy
- Stagecraft
- Dance History


A-FEEREE

The primary training mechanism for African and Caribbean dance forms is A-Feeree. Developed by COBA’s artistic co-founder Bakari E. Lindsay to
condition a dancer’s body to navigate the specific aesthetics of African and African Diasporic dances, A-Feeree draws on the traditional dance
culture of the African continent as well as indigenous folk dances from Trinidad & Tobago.
