Dance Audition Tips

How to pass a dance audition successfully...

Do you want to participate in a show? Get accepted to a dance academy? Maybe a group? A video clip?

You will probably have to pass a dance audition (unless you're really famous...)

Know what is waiting for you...

Before you go, it is important that you know some things about the audition your going to pass; even trivial things such as what documents or forms of identification to bring with you. You don't want to get to the audition and have to be turned away immediately because they ask for your resume (you didn't bring it- you didn't know...). You should also know how long it's going to take, you don't wanna leave in the middle for your neighbor's cousin's birthday. What gear to bring with you? Maybe dance shoes? Or certain dance clothes?

Do you need to prepare a dance? This as well you should know ahead of time. It will be a pity to leave immediately because you didn't prepare a dance. Or you'll be eliminated immediately because you just pull something together in the last minute but all the other dancers worked hard preparing for their dance. If you do need to prepare a dance, you should find out what is the required style, and how long it should be. How will the audition run? Will we dance together or separately? You should find this out as well.

In short, read all the material (if any) from the dancing audition. If something is not clear enough, one phone call will solve it. I recommend making a list of all your questions before calling. It is not advisable to call every time a question arises. It is important to make these inquiries as early as possible, and definitely not on the day of the dance audition (no one might answer). The more you'll know about the audition you will be able to prepare more, and most importantly- you will fear it less.

The best dancers- failed the most times

This paragraph is dedicated to those who fear rejection. It's true that most of us fear rejection, but if you aspire to be a professional dancer you should read the heading of this paragraph over and over. Like with anything in life – if you don't try you won't succeed. Don't be afraid to fail! It happened and will happen to every dancer. In order to deal with the rejection, I recommend seeing it as an adventure or an interesting experience; Definitely throughout your first dance auditions. Decide in advance that you are "there for the experience and don't expect to pass." Disappointed? Maybe a little, but you took the right step by gaining experience. The next audition will be better. Every failure advances you to success. Those who don't fail auditions- have never been to one.

You can learn the most from failure

Did you fail? This is the time to learn and improve. Try to understand why you failed. Maybe your technique isn't good enough? Maybe it's your stage presence? This is when you should work on the things that will make your next dance audition a success. Read the heading again. Learn and develop!

You tried? Failed? Learned? Worked hard? You are on your way to success.
