Hip Hop Dancer's Guidelines

10 things about the hard work of the professional hip hop dancer

  1. To pass an audition in which one must stand out and be chosen over a hundred other known hip hop dancers
  2. To match one's self to many different styles all the time. To open the mind and to never get stuck in one style
  3. To nurture your own personal style (freestyle)
  4. To keep in shape and be fit
  5. To learn various techniques that will help you become more versatile, and therefore a better performer and creator.
  6. To be professional. To keep rhythm and form. To understand there will sometimes be better dancers than us, who will get the harder parts.
  7. To work in different layers, whether it's in a group, as a couple, or alone.
  8. To master other dance parts, like actors who learn several different lines.
  9. To always be at your best. A dancer must be very active. This is not a field where you can wait around at home or the office and wait to be called to an audition. The dancer must push himself/herself forward.
  10. The dancer must be a real performer, one whom others can't take their eyes off of, so that from all the dancers he will be the one they remember. He will be the one to leave his mark.

That's enough for the professional hip hop dancer. But don't get me wrong, a dancer who did not study for many years, or hasn't been in a video clip, is still a dancer. If you have the need to play some music and dance, even if it's in your living room or a club with friends- you are a dancer in your soul.

This need to get down to the sound of music, if you have it- it's yours. No one will ever be able to take that love away from you.

Usually those who feel the dance also want to learn more and more even if dancing is just a pastime. In my opinion this is the best hobby, it encompasses so many aspects of a good time, music, dance, singing....and on top of it all, fitness, and the sculpting of the body.

So come on, get to work! If you feel like a hip hop dancer from birth, or if even you think you have no idea how to move your body left or right, but you have the passion and the need, come try this out. Between you and me- you've got nothing to lose, in the worst case you burned some calories....

Best case scenario- you've gotten yourself an amazing hobby for life..

Yours truly
