Juelz Santana: No Longer a Harlem Secret
He already got some attention for the work he did with Cam'rom back in 2002. Juelz Santana got guest appearances on Cam's two singles, "Hey Ma" and "Oh Boy." Well, how did he get Cam's attention? You have to go back all the way to the late 1990s for that part of the story.
You see, despite being only 15, Juelz Santana is no stranger to the hip hop business. He got his start when he was just 12 writing and spitting rhymes, and around that time, he got his first signing as well, with Priority Records. He became apart of the group called the Draft Pick, and they got gigs around the City. They even won twice at the Amateur Night at the Apollo in Harlem.
Catching Cam's Attention
So you see, this exposure helped gain the attention of Cam. After Juelz Santana's cousin introduced the two, Cam couldn't help but be impressed with how much experience and skills the young kid was showing despite being so young. How young? Juelz Santana was still a teen-ager at this point!
No matter to Cam. He put him alongside the likes of Trina and Ludacris in his remix single "What Means the World to You." And soon Def Jam Recordings came a calling. Are you convinced yet that Juelz Santana has some potential?
If not, you need to check out some of the early Juelz Santana records, out on Def Jam. His first Juelz Santana album came out in 2003, after his big breaks with Cam. The record was called "From Me to U."
Making Money in the Game
You can see the confidence building in Juelz Santana if you listen to the Juelz Santana lyrics on his second album, "What the Game's Been Missing." Actually, just take the title of that album. What do I mean? That is a pretty cocky statement, is it not? And Juelz Santana backed it up. The album garnered Billboard attention as a top R&B and hip hop album for the year.
Around this time, Juelz Santana made a foray into the world of the silver screen. Of course, he's no L.L. Cool J yet, so his parts have been pretty bit. But look for Juelz Santana in the 2005 movie "State Property 2" and the 2006 film "Killa Season."
And he is trying to move ahead with his music career. He's supposedly got work in the works ith Lil Wayne, a collaborative album that has no slated release date as far as we can tell. The third Juelz Santana album does have a tentative release date set for this upcoming summer of 2008. That record will be called "Born To Lose, Built to Win (The Reagan Era)."
