Scarface: From Geto Boys to Pioneering President
That first Scarface album was called "Mr. Scarface is Back." This gold record was followed up in 1993 with "The World Is Yours," another gold record. The following year, one of the more popular Scarface records ever would come out, titled "The Diary." This record made it all the way to number two on the charts, and ended up platinum. The top Scarface songs off the record were "I Seen A Man Die" and "Hand of the Dead Body."
Was that the last we heard of Scarface? Of course not. Scarface only got more popular in the mid-1990s, starting with the number one ranked Scarface record "The Untouchable." Again, the record went platinum, and featured the single named after the album, as well as other Scarface songs such as "Mary Jane" and "Game Over." "My Homies," the Scarface record from the following year, also went platinum, and got him a number one ranking on the charts as well for R&B and hip hop albums
Going Out Blazing?
When the 1990s closed, did that mean the end of Scarface and the hardcore rap that typified the Geto Boys? Not for Scarface. He released another record in 2000, called "The Last of a Dying Breed," and if anything, this record got him even more respect than all of his others. Afterward, Source Magazine gave him an award for being the Lyricist of the Year.
And in fact, the Scarface record that came out after that in 2002, called "The Fix," managed to go platinum yet again, reaching the number one spot for R&B and hip hop albums. Some of the Scarface songs on this album include "Someday" and "On My Block." After this record came out, Scarface said that his solo career was caput. Rumor has it, though, that he is still working on solo material and is getting ready to release a new record. But why not stop the article here until that album gets released?
Because Scarface is so much more now than just a rap artist. For instance, he is the president of De Jam South record label since 2000. He is the genius that brought Ludacris out of the DJ booth and into the recording studio, and then guided the rap star's early career after he signed him onto the label. And there are a number of Scarface video games out there, such as Def Jam Vendetta and Def Jam Fight for NY.
